The God of Wealth (Clay Sculpture)

Worshipped by the people from all works of life in China, the Godof Wealth has a great influence. There is a tradition among thepeople to greet the God of Wealth late on the eve of the SpringFestival (Chinese New Year). On the occasion, incense is burned andsacrifices are offered. The image of the god is put up at allhouseholds, hoping to have a better crop harvest and a betterincome in the new year. There is a jingle among the populace innorthern China, "To open the door at the fifth geng (daybreak) onNew Year''s Day and to meet the God of Wealth gladly. A gold horseis tethered to a tree of heady money source, and a gold figurestands in the treasure basin
